Step 3: Getting your data on and off the SSG

Once you have an account, you can start moving data to the SSG, and later, you will want to move data onto the XSEDE resources. Transfer methods will depend on source and destination, but include

  • GlobusOnline: SSG is configured as a GlobusOnline node. This allows for fast transfers between points on the XSEDE network, but also from arbitrary endpoints (see Step 6 for a description on how to use it)
  • SSH/Sftp: the login node is accessible via SSH/SFTP/SCP. A comfortable client for Windows is WinSCP. Linux has built-in tools. OS X users can try Fugu.
  • Sneaker net: if you have large amounts of data, and depending on your network location, it might make sense to send us large USB or eSATA compatible hard-drives.

We point out immediately that we provide no backup services, and that very large data requests will need to fund additional storage. Contact us if you want to discuss any of this.
